Before You Trust Someone With Your Face…Read This.
3 ways to safely choose a nurse injector
Have you ever thought, “I look old, I look tired, or I’m starting to look more and more like my mom every day”? (Love you, Mom!) Or maybe it’s, “I just want to feel like myself again, but I don’t want anyone to know or feel judged.” At the same time, you’ve probably watched shows like Real Housewives or seen certain celebrities and thought, “That looks way overdone.” Meanwhile, your husband is saying, “Please don’t ever do Botox or filler,” and suddenly the whole idea feels intimidating enough to walk away from completely.
If that sounds familiar, this is for you. Hey, let’s be real. I didn’t tell my husband I started injections for two years! He was completely against Botox and fillers. Ha! Now, look where we are!
But here’s the part that doesn’t get talked about enough. We’ve also all seen those women who somehow look exactly the same twenty years later. Not frozen. Not overdone. Just like themselves. They didn’t get lucky. They have a great injector and a plan, and you can too.
So the real question becomes, how do you choose the right injector, and why does it matter so much?
If you are considering injectables like tox or filler, you are choosing to undergo a medical procedure that, when done well, should be undetectable. That is not meant to scare you away, or say what’s the point, but to encourage you to choose wisely. Remember the lady who hasn’t aged at all in 20 years? Can you tell what she has had done? Listen, you are trusting someone with your face, your safety, and your long-term results. Aesthetics should feel thoughtful and intentional, but also like a two-way conversation. It should feel centered around you while also being guided by someone who knows when to say yes and when to say no.
Before we get into how to choose the right injector, I think it matters to know who is giving you this advice. I recently moved from Colorado to Texas, and while the scenery changed, my standards did not. I have been a nurse for nearly 20 years, with a strong clinical foundation and extensive hands-on experience in aesthetics. I have performed an estimated 40,000 plus injections over the course of my career and have likely observed just as many. You wouldn’t trust your dentist, doctor, or surgeon to take a weekend certification course and then perform your medical procedure, and your face deserves that same level of care. Please choose wisely.
So let’s say you are on board with seeing a legitimate, qualified medical provider. How do you actually choose your injector?
Start with these three things.
First, they should take the time to properly assess you.
A real consultation is not rushed and is not a copy-and-paste version of what worked for someone else. This is where your face, your anatomy, your goals, and your long-term plan come together and are explained to you. It should feel personalized, not standardized. Sometimes, that conversation may even include being told that injectables are not the right first step. I love you, but injectables can only do so much, you may need surgery.
Second, look at your injector.
Truly. Do they have big, bold features, very full lips, or a more dramatic look? Or do they appear natural, balanced, and refreshed? Are you guessing their age? Do they have healthy-looking skin? Most injectors create what they believe is beautiful, and their aesthetic shows up in their work. You can even look beyond their face. Look at their space. Is it clean, intentional, and well put together? Because while aesthetics is medicine, there is also an undeniable level of artistry involved. If you sit down and think, “I don’t want to look like that,” that matters. They may be a great injector, just not your injector. On the other hand, if you love how they look and the results they produce, that is usually a very good sign.
And one more thing that matters more than most people realize. You should always know exactly what is being used and where it comes from.
Aesthetics is medicine, and it should be treated as such. Ask if the products are FDA-approved. Ask where they are sourced from. Ask to see the packaging if you want to. That level of transparency should not feel awkward; it should be standard. No Botox from Temu, please.
At the end of the day, choosing an injector comes down to safety, education, and trust.
It should feel like a good fit, not rushed, not pressured, and not confusing. Just steady, thoughtful, and right. Because the goal is not to look different. The goal is to look like you. A well-rested, brighter, younger version of you.
More to come soon.
Love,
